At Cranberry Headache & Migraine Relief Center we use Cranial Electrical Stimulation on many of our chronic pain treatment plans. Specifically, we use alpha wave technology — a non-invasive form of microcurrent electrical stimulation that is very useful for the treatment of chronic headaches, severe migraines, TMJ and face pain, chronic tension and tinnitus. Electrical stimulation is used in conjunction with other beneficial, non-invasive treatment modalities to achieve long-lasting pain relief.
Is using Altha Stim just like using a TENS unit?
Though similar in some ways, these technologies aren’t exactly the same. There are in fact several key differences between the Alpha Stim Technology we use and a standard TENS unit.
In recent history there have been a wide variety of devices available for use to pain patients for applying electrical stimulation to the body. One of the most common devices is known as a TENS unit (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation). TENS units have been popular for years and you may have heard of one or used one if you suffer with chronic pain.
Electrical stimulation from a TENS unit does not alter the biochemistry of the patient in the same way that Alpha Stim does. TENS units are basically meant for pulsating the musculature, while the micro current application of the Alpha Stim devices are unique in that they are designed for neuromotor re-education of functional pathways. This key difference is what separates Alpha Stim from TENS and many other devices — Alpha Stim use helps to manage abnormal neurochemistry found in patients who suffer from chronic pain. Alpha Stim devices can literally change the sensorimotor, proprioceptive, and somatosensory reflexes within a patient to promote neural re-education of the feedback pathways involved in pain.
Alpha Stim is a Strong Choice for Many Chronic Pain Patients
CES may be an appropriate choice for patients who suffer with any of a number of chronic conditions. Chronic headache patients, migraineurs, and tension sufferers may all be excellent candidates for CES.
In addition, trigeminal system problems may also produce chronic pain conditions. Individuals with orofacial pain or TMJ may also improve dramatically through Alpha Stim treatment.
If you suffer with any of the chronic pain conditions mentioned above then CES/Alpha Stim might help you live a more productive, pain-free lifestyle. Call Dr. Robison today at Cranberry Headache & Migraine Relief Center to schedule a comprehensive diagnostic exam. Cranial Electrical Stimulation is a difference maker and may be appropriate for you.
